Some Sex Symbol for Your Monday.

I've always thought that Monroe represented some kind of marker in American history in terms of sexual expression and a tolerance for immodesty. Technically, Paris Hilton is the Monroe of our time, think about it: the baby voice, marketing themselves under the pretense that they're inept AND the awkward sexual promiscuity (which is both condemned and embraced). The only real differences were that: Monroe is timeless, [people forgot about Paris as quickly as they forgot about waterbeds... (that's a poor comparison, but seriously what happened to waterbeds??) TAKE TWO: as quickly as they forgot that Laura Bush killed someone.] and Monroe was actually- based on her older films, before the blond hair and the baby voice- relatively talented [Mind you i did see Paris Hiltons sex tape and if we're including blow jobs as a kind of skill... then maybe]. Anyway i could pay homage to Marilyn all day but I've taken far too much cold medication to focus my insignificant rambling to this specific outlet. There are ALWAYS people to annoy.

TPC Sounds Like A Hallucinogenic I'd Be Afraid to Take.

I thought I'd use this space to express my love for Tokyo Police Club. I only really went to the Metric concert last spring, (which ended up being quite good, except for the fact that The Deers were one of the openers & they had FAR too many band members... it was very upsetting for me) because Tokyo Police Club opened for them. THAT is how much i enjoy Tokyo Police Club. I know your thinking. "That's it? You didn't dig through the garbage outside their dressing room and sell the small use Kleenex's on eBay? Keeping the bigger ones for yourself to marvel at in many private moments?" To you i say: I only did that once. I'm still in touch with Shania Twain's people, we're working something out.

This Week Be Like...

Today was a good day. I thought I'd share with you, the non-existent reader
(much like the non-existent intruder i imagine is always lurking in the corners, proving
that my life ultimately consists of a collection of imaginary people), a collection of weekly recommendations.

Fo' Evah Evah?

Being that I am in the midst of saving money to move to French Canada, I chose a less sophisticated (or as we'd say at Crabapple "Cheap & Cheerful") line to feature. HERE are my Forever 21 Spring Picks.

In Your Face! Viva La Vida!

Proust Questionnaire. Because I'm feeling elitist.

Your favorite virtue. Sincerity, the certainly that you believe whole heartedly in every word you say. Given, a completely sincere individual wouldn't be terribly talkative, nor would they be an interesting cocktail party conversationalist.
Your favorite qualities in a man. The ability to be comfortable in any situation. Men so rarely look comfortable.
Your favorite qualities in a woman. Complete self-awareness.
Your chief characteristic. An eye for the aesthetics.
What you appreciate the most in your friends. Their frankness, their insatiable adventurous desire.
Your main fault. Pride.
Your favourite occupation. Bathing.

Riding Red Cap

Out of my irrational, neurotic fear of futility i have succumb to the energy suck that is the summer course. In an effort to avoid anything terribly challenging i took Children's Lit, which, as it turns out is significantly more difficult than one would think. The most interesting subject I've discovered so far is the folktale "Little Red Riding Hood". Below are my study notes. I know you don't care but i thought it was interesting & it's MY blog so whatever, go write your own blog. Cunt.

Moral : Whatever their guise, a wolf is capable of making a fallen woman out of any sweet unsuspecting virgin.

Perrault first wrote "Little Red Riding Hood" possibly as a cautionary tale for young women to avoid the blatantly sexual devouring wolf. It focuses on vanity and an unconscious sexuality, which is summarily punished. In the story Red Riding Hood undresses & climbs into bed with the wolf immediately after arrival. Within the context of this story Riding Hood makes no effort to escape his advances or fight back, making us believe that she's either incredibly stupid or is hoping to be seduced.

The Grimm's Brothers also wrote a version of the story entitled "Little Red Cap", in the Grimm's Brothers story a woodcutter (representative of the father figure) rescues red riding cap and her grandmother from the wolf, where as in Perrault's version the wolf devours the little girl.

Motif: Pedophilia. The wolf doesn't directly differentiate women by age. But is intent on having the younger of the two.

Symbol: The Red Cap. Symbolizes violent emotion/ sexual emotion. Red is representative of blood & in turn, sexual maturity. The cap comes from the grandmother, demonstrating a transfer of sexual attractiveness, further accentuated by the grandmother's being too sick and weak to even answer the door. It's suggested in the text that Red Riding Cap is too young to manage the symbolic weight of what she's wearing.

P is for Pablo Neruda.

Just thought i'd put half of a BA in english to work, all the while proving to myself that I read an acceptable amount of literature per month... by my own standards. Anyway, I've been reading a lot of Pablo Neruda. If you like this look up his poem The Flea.

So That You'll Hear Me by Pablo Neruda

So that you will hear me
my words
sometimes grow thin
as the tracks of the gulls on the beaches.

Necklace, drunken bell
for your hands smooth as grapes.

And I watch my words from a long way off.
They are more yours than mine.
They climb on my old suffering like ivy.

It climbs the same way on damp walls.
You are to blame for this cruel sport.
They are fleeing from my dark lair.
You fill everything, you fill everything.

Before you they peopled the solitude that you occupy,
and they are more used to my sadness than you are.

Now I want them to say what I want to say to you
to make you hear as I want you to hear me.

The wind of anguish still hauls on them as usual.
Sometimes hurricanes of dreams still knock them over.
You listen to other voices in my painful voice.

Lament of old mouths, blood of old supplications.
Love me, companion. Don't forsake me. Follow me.
Follow me, companion, on this wave of anguish.

But my words become stained with your love.
You occupy everything, you occupy everything.

I am making them into an endless necklace
for your white hands, smooth as grapes.

Announcements.

I shall be moving to the foreign land of french Canada in the fall. Partially because I'm currently living in a province that spends less than 5% of the entire budget on the arts... & a BA in English is already useless, i may as well go to where it's most valued. & Partially because it's been a very difficult couple of months & i have come to the realization that there isn't anything here for me anymore. I need a new adventure.

RESUME ACTIVITY.
